Reported Speech - Questions (1)

Practise reporting questions!
If you want to report the question someone asked, it depends on the type of question how to report it. In every case you need to change the tense, like you do for statements in reported speech. Yes / No Questions: ask + if / whether. But you don't use do/did in the reported speech. For example: Did you bake the cake? He asked me if I had baked the cake.
Questions with question words: ask + question word from the question. For example: Where do you live? She asked where I lived. Request for objects: ask + for. For example: Can I have a piece of cake? She asked for a piece of cake.
