Solutions for: App 297 / Reported Speech - Statements (2)

Practise statements in reported speech!
We use reported speech to talk about what someone else has said.
Careful with the tenses! When you report what someone said in the present simple it changes to past simple, the past simple changes to the past perfect, the present continuous changes to past continuous and present perfect changes to past perfect. NOTE: Will changes to Would and won't to wouldn't!
Exception: If the statement was made in the past perfect it does not change nor in some cases when what was said (mostly in the present tense) is still relevant or true now.
For example: When Judy tells you: "I practise reported speech tonight" and you want to tell your Mum you say: "Judy said that she practised reported speech last night."

It does not change for sentences that are still true now: Statement: I am ill and cannot come ice-skating. Reported speech: She said she is ill and cannot come ice-skating.

Careful: Use the right pronouns! Statement: Robert: This is my house. Reported speech: He said this is "his" house.
