Can you fill in the gaps with the past perfect?

What is the past perfect again? We need to use "had" and the 3rd verb form, for example: He had taken the dog for a walk. Or: She had finished her meal.
When do we use the past perfect? We use the past perfect when we want to tell what happened before something else in the past or up to a certain point in the past. For example: He had already finished (past perfect) all his homework when his mother came (simple past) home. After he had played in the garden, he watched TV.
